Where is a good place for me to start reading Superman comics?

I am quite new to comics, and the only knowledge of Superman I have is from watching Smallville (technically not Superman yet). So where should I start? Preferably a point in the Superman universe where you only need minimal knowledge of any past events.

Thanks in advance.

I would start with The Death and Return of Superman, it’s three trade paperback collections.

Death of Superman
Funeral for a Friend
Return of Superman

Just don’t expect to see Chloe in them, she was created for the show.

Why do fans of comicbook movies think casting some name-brand star is so important?

I hate seeing Angelina Jolie and Josh Hartnett’s being considered by fans for roles in my comicbook movies! I would rather the production company spent the millions other films spend on stars, and use it for special effects.
remember, I asked why the fans of COMICBOOK movies, not fans of movies.

I don’t think that the fans actually want name-brand stars attached to them. I think that most people would rather have actors/actresses who can pull off the role…big named stars are ideal for producers who want people who AREN’T comic book fans to go.

Look at Fantastic Four, none of them are exceptionally huge named stars. The new Superman was essentially a no one. Christian Bale from Batman Begins is hardly a huge actor. I wouldn’t consider Tobey Maguire to be a name-brand star until Spiderman. Same with Hugh Jackman.

Personally, I would rather they cast no ones and spend the money on writing decent scripts…because a lot of them suck.

One person who understands this, is Joss Whedon, who is directing Wonder Woman. He wants a no namer to play her. At least that’s what I heard. Possibly just a rumor, though.

would it be safe to store comic books in spacebags?

I’m thinking of buying some comics off of ebay but I’m also going to be leaving for a while so i was wondering if i could store these comics safely in spacebags for a long period of time and if so how long approximately?

Just a plastic bag? I don’t see what difference that would make, good or bad.

The comics should already be individually in polypropelene or mylar bags, with acid absorbing card board backings. After that, it doesn’t matter too much where you keep them as long as they won’t get knocked around or stepped on. Ideally, they should be kept in a cool, dry place, as moisture and heat are what ruin comics – but only over an extended period of time, like say ten years.

Ideally, they should be kept vertical, and not stacked on one another. They make standard cardboard comic boxes which are sized to hold them in a row, like a filing cabinet drawer. 99% of comic collectors use them, and any comic store in the world will sell them.

How long are you leaving for? If it’s less than a month, it really doesn’t matter.

And what comics are these exactly? If you’re paying less than a dollar per issue, the comics probably aren’t really valuable to begin with and you don’t need to worry at all about how you store or treat them.

Trying to remember a comic book shop in Oklahoma City?

This might be a tad obscure, but who know: Y!A sometimes surprises me with the answers you can get.

I used to go to a comic book shop in Oklahoma City, and I can vaguely remember how I got to it (it was YEARS ago). The only clue I can think of, as to it’s location, was that it was across the street from an apartment complex that had a faux medieval appearance.

Ah, well. Maybe someone knows. I’m hoping to head out that way at some point, and I’d be curious to find the shop again.

Thanks.

Here’s a map of Oklahoma City with the comic book shops pinpointed: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=en&q=category:+Book+Dealers+Comic&near=Oklahoma+City,+OK&sll=35.47205,-97.52032&sspn=0.549134,0.998383&ie=UTF8&oi=ls_category&sa=X&ct=result&cd=1&ei=7AFKRp7LHY3erQLYxpyYAQ

I’m trying to cross-reference the places with apartments, but am not having a lot of luck yet. Perhaps you’ll recognize the name, or the general location, assuming it’s still around.

Enjoy your trip!

Can you recommend a good program to catalog and price my comic book collection?

The time has come to liquidate my comic book collection. Unfortunately, my ex-wife has my old catalog and will not return it; an old Lotus Approach program anyways. Well I am upgrading to wife 3.0 and need cash for the wedding. So I am selling the comics. Problem is I haven’t collected in like 7 years and have a slew of books (do ask how many, ‘ cause I don’t know). I want to sell them all, but need to catalog and price them before sale.

I am already strapped for cash, so price is an issue.

Does anyone know a good program or website that can help me to catalog and price my comic books?
I already know about the programs in MS Excel and Access, but I was looking for a lil bit more detailed program. The program I had from many moons again had a listing for cover price and current FMV; which tabulated profit/loss. Of course this program connected to the internet for the FMV.

My favourite website to price my comic books is www.comicspriceguide.com I have found it very useful. You can also buy, sell and action comics, and it tells how to rate your comics if your not sure

What movies have contained in them scenes that were done using comic book art, motion or still?

Natural Born Killers, with Woody Harrelson, had some comic book work/animation done in it. It seems like Sin City or 300 would, but not really. Any other come to mind?

Casherrn (a japanese movie)
goemon (a japanese ninja movie)
cup of tears (its like 300 meets the last samurai)
sky captain and the world of tommorrow

you can find the trailers for all these visually stunning movis on youtube

Action Comics 255-274?

I am looking for a reader comment my father sent in to Action comics around 1960. He said he got a post card back from the publisher saying that his question would be published in the following issue. He was never able to purchase that issue and has never seen the response. Is there any place I could go to find which issue his question was published? I believe it is within the numbers 255-274. It was about super girl digging through the ground and why her hands are not dirty. Can anyone help me? Thanks

Let me get back to you on that one.

How To Get Free WoW Time Cards

WARNING: There are impostor videos out there trying to steal your time cards. Do not by fooled by the @live.com accounts. This redirects to a real blizzard authentication server.

This trick is amazing. You’ll never have to pay for wow again. I almost quit if it weren’t for finding this, but it saved me :P

I have sold over 40 game cards to friends and people online and became rich from this. It’s truly a miracle. :D So now you get to benefit from it.

Anyway, the code from the video should be sent to blizzards server which is located at:
services@blizzardentertainment.net

Make the subject of your email:
Employee Discount

The query (command) that you will send to it must be completely accurate. This is the template i used for my mass mailings:
/runscript requesttime
/code=XXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXX
/endscript

Where the xxxx’s are, you should input a valid, unused gamecard to validate your request. Unfortunately, I have tried using used cards, but i don’t get a response. :[

If you don't get an instant response, don't worry, often times the emails get backed up while the server is turned off, but once it's turned back on, all your requests should be immediately processed.

Let me know if you have any issues! :]
