Comic Book Reviews: Uncanny X-Men#495 and Detective Comics

We’ve got THREE Newsarama Sneak Reviews in this episode. First, Uncanny X-Men follows up the conclusion of the Messiah Complex. It’s a great jumping on point for anyone unfamiliar with the X-Men if such a person actually exists.

Then, we get a Batman Animated series feeling from Detective comics #841, helmed by Paul Dini. We take back all the bad things we said about Paul Dini.

And we got our hands on the premiere issue of Clandestine #1, slated to hit the stands on Wednesday. Alex recommends it based on the artwork alone, but is it worth picking up?

Then in the speed round, we check out Fist of Justice #1, Captain America #34, Black Adam #6, Black Summer #5 and Madman #6.

Comic Book Reviews: Justice Society of America 12, Fables 69

We picked up issue #2 of The Twelve, a great series that we highly recommend. The Twelve follows Golden Age heroes that wake up in the present day after being frozen for 60 years.

We really enjoyed the hero-packed issue #12 of JSA. Lots of heroes, lots of stories and they’re recruiting even more in this issue.

Fables issue #69 is more of a great series that we really like. The artwork is top-notch and the story is huge.

Then in our speed round we cover Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters #1, The Trials of Shazam #11, Jack of Fables #19, Proof #4, and Action comics #861.

Today in our mailbag, we talk about how comic books tackle social issues like underage drinking and gambling. Thanks to the great question from JLTiberi on the Pulp Secret forums.

Powers #29, Drafted #9, and Detective Comics #846

Up first it’s a review of Powers #29. The guys agree that this title is consistently great and think you should definitely check it out. Next up it’s Drafted #9. Pete likes the reveal in this issue and thinks the story is very intense.

In this episode of The Stack we check out Detective comics #846. Justin thinks that Paul Dini is at his finest with this issue and he’s setting up a major arc. Be sure to check it out!
