Hello internet! It’s been a wee bit since you’ve been blessed with the presence of Comic Book Media. 2018 was a taxing year for many people. Personally, I no longer maintain a presence on twitter (minus one brief occasion to show off my bitchin’ Halloween costume) which has drastically reduced readers to this site and, as a result, my interest in output. But thanks to the stellar showing of comic book movies and television in 2018, I felt that this yearly tradition couldn’t be left by the wayside. Joining me again is the incomparable Brian C. Baer as we dissect the best and worst of comic book media this year. Also, stay tuned for this year’s Golden Evans winner. Now, let’s dig in…

PILOT LITE: Black Lightning (2018)

Back in the 1970’s the comic book landscape was almost entirely dominated by white heroes and their supporting casts. DC Comics, seeing a niche to be filled, decided to create their first black hero. And so Black Bomber was born!

Another year comes to a close and another Best/Worst list from Comic Book Media is completed. This year, Colby and Brian are joined by a real life celebrity! So welcome Burr onto the team and check out our picks for the best and worst of all things Comic Book Media in 2017! And, of course, find out who’ll be winning this year’s coveted Golden Evans award…

Look at that, it’s nearly March 2017 and we’re just now getting around to the “best/worst of” for 2016! What happened there? Too much to list, really. I apologize for the delay and take a majority of the responsibility for it. One person who is certainly not to blame, however, is Brian C. Baer. He is a writing machine. So, without wasting another second, here is Comic Book Media’s annual look at the best and worst of comic based movies and television by Colby and Brian, The Moderate Fanboys. Enjoy!

This television season saw some great strides in comics on TV, but also a bit of stumbling. New series, for the most part, premiered strong while many of the returning shows seemed to have a bit of trouble maintaining their footing. Without going into it too much, here’s my ranking for this year’s comic book television shows: (more…)
CBM Profile: DC Heroes

This profile is going to be a little different than others that have been posted. Instead of focusing on one character or team, I’m going to look at a few different DC heroes who have had a limited presence in expanded media. None of them have had enough of an impact to carry their own profile, so I’m combining. Enjoy!

PILOT LITE: Supergirl (2015 television pilot)

Comic-based television shows have become big business lately. As mentioned previously, more shows are pulling from comics, and this trend doesn’t seem to be slowing. With that in mind, it’s easy to dismiss any number of shows premiering this year as the also-ran cash-grab to the first wave of this new phenomenon. And while there may be some cynical viewers who do just that, I think, if anything, this second wave of series would be more likely to out-perform what came before simply because they have the gift of hindsight. And if there’s ever been a premiere that has benefitted from hindsight, it’s Supergirl.

PILOT LITE: 2014-2015 Season in Review

The 2014/15 television season has become well known as the season of the comic book television series. While we used to be content with the occasional Smallville or Birds of Prey (ok, no one was content with Birds of Prey), it’s now possible to watch comic book programming 5 nights a week (or more thanks to DVR). While most of these shows have been ratings successes, I’ve been looking at them on my own scale of general artistry and adaptation. To me, not all of them have been stellar, but it’s certainly been interesting to watch them grow, regardless.
